Cancel an order

I am trying to cancel a pending order when certain criteria have been met. I am trying to do the cancel from "OnMarketData". Print statements show the conditions have been met successfully but nothing happens to the order. No cancel, no error, nothing. Is there some reason an order can't be cancelled from within "OnMarketData"?
