The last trade on a backtest will always be exit on close

Hi everyone,

I was told by a very helpful support that 'The last trade on a backtest will always be exit on close'.

May I know the reason behind this ?
Isn't it better to just leave the last trade as 'open' if the exit condition was not met at the end of backtest period?

I'm a bit confused because I did come across another backtest platform which will do what I described, and it seems make more sense to me.
