Historical Data Manager

I am trying to understand the difference between downloading historicals with "Historical Data Manager" and just displaying a chart on Ninja trader?!

When I load ES 1 minute chart with 1500 days, I get a chart displayed in a few seconds.
Is the data downloaded the same way as if I downloaded it using Historical Data Manager?

When should I use Historical Data Manager to download historicals?

Yes, the data is downloaded in the same way.

You can use either feature to download data. The Historical Data Manager is just a point and click feature while will help you visual the data that already exists in your database. You also have the ability to download a list of data for multiple interval types at once rather than having to open each instrument/type in a separate chart.
