Should strategy Have a time period to test , to be a good strategy ?. I have never shown a profit going back 5 years. Do strategy have to be evolving and what is a good time period to back test ?

More the better, so that you can test your strategy at different market conditions (ranging market, trending markets etc) to avoid any curve fitting.
