Pivot point display as a line

I am new at this and am trying to display pivot points on the previous bar as a continuous or a dotted line on the chart. If I understand the problem, I am trying to display the function P=(H+L+C) /3 on the previous bar, on the chart,

I hope this makes sense. What would be the easiest way to do that?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello cliffordbyrne,

The Pivots indicator is calculated on a daily, weekly or monthly range. You can set this in the indicator menu, while the Pivots indicator is highlighted under "PivotRangeType". More information about the Pivots indicator can be found at the link below.

      Hello,

      Thank you for your post.

All you will need to do is add the pivot point indicator to the chart and set the 'Displacement' value to 1. This should give you the results you are looking for.

Forget pivot point, displaying a function istead

        Jason,

Thanks for your reply. Maybe I should forget the pivot point issue and rephrase the question: How to display the function P=(H+L+C) /3 of the previous bar, on the chart?

Hopefully this will clarify my intent.

        Regards

          Hi,

You will need to enter a value of 1 next to "Displacement" in the indicator menu as NinjaTrader Eamon suggested. The Pivots indicator will now be calculated on the previous bar.

            Partial success

Gentlemen, thanks for your help. I have now the pivot point displayed, but it is overwritten in the next period. How do I make all the previously calculated PPs stay in the chart and show as a continuous line?

            Regards

              Hi,

Unfortunately, this is not possble by default with the Pivots indicator. However, you can create custom indicators using NinjaScript. More information about creating custom indicators can be found in the link below.

                Workaround

If you just want to display the pivot point of each bar try this:
place the SMA indicator (Simple Moving Average) in the chart.
                Set the
                Period
                to 1,
                Price Type to Typical,
                Displacement to 1,
                Dash Style to Solid, and
                Plot Style to Square.

This takes the HLC/3 of one bar and projects it one bar into the future, which I believe is what you desire. If you wish to see the pivot point of the bar on itself without projecting set the displacement parameter to zero.
                Cheers,
                Taters
