Calculation of a trade's Percent Profit

Just to be sure I understand:

Percent Profit (or loss) on a trade is calculated like this:

(exit price - entry price) / (entry price) * 100

    Correct?

I more usually write it as

100 * (exit price - entry price) / (entry price)

just so I can be absolutely sure that no matter the language or compiler, that 100 is applied as a multiplier to the numerator.

My question regarding the formula (if I am correct) is this: what was the logic behind calculating the percent profit as a percent of the instrument traded? Do I care that my account grew by 0.15% of the size of the S&P index, or that it grew by 5% of MY account size? I'm politely asking, "what were you thinking?"

        Its percentage per instrument.

NinjaTrader has no concept of "Account Size" in our performance reporting.

That is clear Brett; what is not clear is why there is nothing in place to allow this using a stock ATM strategy. In other words, if I want to know what percentage of my account I just gained or lost, I can't do it in NT, at least, not without getting dirty with c#--yet, this is probably one of the more fundamental pieces of information a trader needs to know. Even the ability to have the user input his account size at the beginning of the day if it is a broker that does not allow the retrieving of this information.. something, anything...?

Requires custom coding as you point out.
