Average Price

I'm having trouble computing my average price. I think it's wrong on my chart. Maybe it's a bug or maybe I'm just not understanding correctly. Here is what I've done.

• Short ES at 1404.50 (2 contracts)
• Take profit on 1 contract at 1396.75
• Short 1 contract at 1390.25
• Stop out 1 contract at 1393.50

Now I am short 1 contract. The way I think about it I'm still short from my original position at 1404.50 and the way it is reporting in Account Performance is that I closed my original position with the stop out so you can also look at it as I'm short from 1390.25.

However, NinjaTrader is showing that I'm short by 1 contract from an average price of 1399.75. How in the world was this price calculated?

NinjaTrader takes the average price into consideration to calculate the prosition price

In your case its is (1404.50 * 2 + 1390.25) / 3 which comes to 1399.75

You can also change the calculation method to FIFO (first in first out) from:

• In Control Center menu bar goto Tools>Options and click on the General tab.
• In the General tab, check on "Use FIFO for position avg price calculation"
