Historical Data

My data provider is IB and it doesn't have enough historical minute data. If I import several years of data from a text file, will NT use that data when I open a chart that goes back several years or will it try to get it from IB. IB blocks me when I request too much historical data, so I am trying to avoid this.

Hi Shane,

Yes, NT can chart with your imported data. It will request data from IB but you can disable this, either completely for the connection or the automatic data requests.

To disable the automatic data requests: Click on Tools Menu > Options > Data tab. Uncheck Get Data from server. Even with this setting unchecked, you could still manually request historical data by right clicking on chart > Reload Historical data.

Basically what I want to do is have all of the historical data come from the data that I import, but still get live data from IB. Is this possible?

Yes, you can turn off historical data for the connection. Click Tools > account connections > Highlight IB and change, then set historical data = Disabled.
