It's crucial that I get accurate time for the open to test my strategy but there seems to be no indication on the chart as to which bar is the open bar of the day.

matching the time scale with the open
When I imported the emini S&P 500 data I set the time zone to UTC -6 which I believe is correct for that market; however, when I create a chart all the volume seems to be between about 9pm and 9am which is way off what it should be, since the market opens around 8:30am in the US. I've tried using UTC -5 too which is eastern US but thats also way off.

Hello StratResearcher,
Thanks for your post.
When importing data from a text file, you would be setting the timezone used in the data set which you're actually importing - so, the critical question here is what timezone does the data which you're importing use? That is the timezone which must be selected when importing.KyleNinjaTrader Customer Service

I'm not sure what the data uses how do i find out? I opened the text file to see and this is what a line looks like:
20120103 060000;1274.75;2
