Adding variable to the NT code, to show in the parameter list

I can add a new variable into the NT script and use it within the main code, but I cannot modify the script so that the new variable shows in the indicator properties window, so that I can change it without having to go back into the script and change, compile and reinstall.
I have tried to do this on several occasions, succeeding only to wreck the script and I have to start over again.
This oldhiker would appreciate some help. Thank you

Thanks to the suggestions at the bottom of this question, I now have the answers as provided by ;-
NinjaTrader_Tim back in June 2010 gave me the information.

One more question, where is the code re Gui............................. placed in the overall script.
