    Merge Data error

Tried merging the 12-07 contract with 03-08 and get the following error.

No day data available for from instrument
no minute data available for to instrument
no tick data available for to instrument.

Then I look at my charts after restarting and nothing has changed. Still don't have enough bars on my chart to display my indicators.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Let a chart run with 03-08 data for a few minutes, then merge again. You always have to have some data in the "merge to" instrument for a merge to be possible.

Thanks for the reply. The chart had already been running for about half an hour at the time I tried it. Tried several times and got that error each time. Just tried it again after receiving your message and still got the same error.

      Thanks,
      Mike

got it fixed. simple error or omission. had the end date for the 12-07 contract as 12/13/07. changed it to 12/12/07 and the merge worked.

fwiw .. there may be a bug in 6.5 with merge.

I have just merged most of my futures contracts.
          Minute, Tick was fine.

However I could not merge DAY data.

I verified I did have several days worth of all 3 type of data collected for the 03/08 contracts. In fact, I had a DAY chart up when I when I did the merge.

              Zoltran,

I tried merging daily data, I had no problem.

              Can you please:
              - choose Tools -> Historical Data -> Export
              - select the instrument, from which you want to merge. Select 'To' as today, and 'From' 3 month ago.
              - export data for 'Day'
              - do the same for the instrument, into which you want to merge
              - select Tools -> Historical Data -> Merge, do your settings, and make a screenshot.

Please send the screenshot, and the exported 'from instrument' and 'to instrument' data from <user>\My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\db\export to [email protected].

              Thanks,
              Christian

Well...here is where the problem occurs. Tried exporting the Day data for the 12-07 ER2 contract and it says no Day data exists. So, I couldn't get past the first step. Anyway, I went to Tools -> Historical Data -> Reload so I could reload the Day data. Guess what. Day, Week, Month, Year is grayed out. Tick, Volume, Second is ok and so is Minute.

                Thanks for your help,
                Mike

                  Mike,

to which feed do you connect ? Please make sure your feed provides daily historical data for the instrument selected.

                  Kind regards,
                  Christian

                      Hi,

ZenFire doesn't support daily historical data.

                      Kind regards,
                      Christian

I've been using a free OpenTick datafeed for daily info. I'm not sure how-much historical data it will provide, however.

                            Christian

I just played with this some some.
The problem was that I had daily data to 12/12 but current tick/minute data to 12/13 So when I merged using 12/13 Daily failed. I was doing this on the 13th .. so maybe I hadn't collected a daily bar for that day yet.

Regardless ... This is still one of the more frustrating functions in NT.
Rolling futures should be as simple as pointing to your old file, and pressing the 'roll' button. NT already has all the info on roll dates, next month etc in the instrument manager.

So ... Now that I've merged my data ... I no longer need to keep the old 12/07 contract data. How do we purge it from the DB?
My DB is now over 250M
