Point and Figure Charts - Can Time be Removed?

    Pretty simple Q

For P&F charts, can time be removed out as an input?

Any idea if there will ever be a time that this might be possible?

    Thanks!

    Hello canuck,

    Thank you for your post.

Can you please clarify your request? Are you wishing to use another interval such as tick or volume to base your PnF Charts?

PointAndFigure bars are built based solely on price movement with no regard to time or volume

However, when setting up a PnF Chart from the Data series menu, you can change the 'Base Period' type from Minute to any other interval available in NT V7.

A popular misconception about P&F charts is that they have no time component, and that is certainly the way that it is usually presented.

However, look at how a P&F chart is REALLY constructed, and you will see why time is ALWAYS a component. Time is the interval at which the count is taken to determine how many boxes to draw. Will you draw boxes after every 30 minutes; every 60 minutes; every day; every week, when? That is time. It cannot be removed.

True the display of the chart shows levels only: no reasonably sensible time axis. It does not mean that time is not present. All movement, even of price, takes place within time intervals. The only difference is how we choose to present that movement.

I was referring to ninja's session slicing of its P&F charts.
            A wrong implementation of P&F!

canuck ment the input base value, which is indeed necessary for P&F.
            my bad.

Ah, the restart of plotting at session starts. Yes, definitely nowhere in the literature. Sorry that I misunderstood. I guess it never bothered me because I use 24/7 sessions on P&F charts.
