im sure this has been requested as a feature, but i think we should be able to customize the bar time frame drop down like we can for the instrument manager. using whatever style we like, range, ticks, time, etc..

Yes, I have seen this feature request before - I will try to find a tracking ID to send to you.
However note that you can change to any interval using your keyboard which is much quicker than using the drop down menu
For example if you wanted to change to a 240 minute chart, you could type 240M on the chart. 1500 Volume chart would be 1500V, etc.
