How to move instruments between instrument lists?

I have the following problem: there is a long list of futures contracts (often the same instrument for different historical contract months) in my "Default" list. I want to move these to a new instrument list.

At the same time, I also have a long list of shares that is in another instrument list and I want to copy these to the "Default" list.

So what is the easiest way to move these around without having to do al these things manually?

    Hello,

    Thanks for the forum post.

Unfortunately instrument list are a manual process one a time only.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

OK. Maybe you can put on this on the list for future consideration: ability to import and export intrument lists.

You don't need to store old contracts in the list! Just remuve them.

You can backtest them from the current instrument! (if you have "merge...")

I know that (and I already use that feature) but that is besides the point. I just want to know how I can move instruments around between instrument lists. Futures contracts, shares, whatever it is. That's alll

                Hello Firefly,

You can remove and add individual instruments to instrument lists in the Instrument Manager. Please see the link below for instructions and more information.

Please bring back Lists menu item for charts.

I am running across the same limitation of the implementation of Instrument Lists.

When viewing charts, only the Default list is shown in the pulldown list. When running Replay Data, it would be great to be able to switch between the various replayed instruments in a separate list. The current method of individually adding and removing Instruments to this Default list is amazingly annoying and time consuming.

From looking at old screenshots of NT, it looks like the pulldown list used to have a "Lists..." menu item. Can this please be added back in? It would solve most of the problems.

                  Thanks in advance,
                  Howitzer

                    howitzer,

When running charts live or in replay made, you can change the instrument and expiry by typing directly on the chart.

For example if you had an ES 09-11 chart load, but wanted to switch to the expired ES 06-11, you can switch this by typing "ES 06-11" on the chart (without quotes) and press enter when finished.

Please see our Help Guide article on How to change a Data Series for more information:

                      Moving Instrument Lists

                      Hi Guys,

I need to move an instrument list from a "Simulation" machine to a "Live" machine.

I know I can "Backup" the the "Simulation" machine and "Restore" to the "Live" machine, but my question is whether this will just add to or replace my "Live Machine" configuration.

For example will it simply add the new Instrument Lists and Data or will it delete all my existing Instrument Lists and replace them with those from the Simulation machine?

                        Hello,

It would replace your existing database, which would delete any existing settings.
