Multiple Computers

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to have two work stations (computers)
I have a computer I use at my work office to trade and a laptop at home that I would like to use to learn ninjascript. Is it possible to download Ninjatrader and use the same lifetime license key to do this? I do not want to use my home laptop to trade, I just want to program and study.

Thank you for your note.

You can install NinjaTrader on multiple computers but you can only use your Live NinjaTrader license key on one computer at a time or else this would place you in violation of the NinjaTrader End User License Agreement.

Additional note: Most data feed providers & brokers do not allow multiple simultaneous connections to the same account.

You mean that the live licence key is not tied to the Machine ID ?

Hi koganam,

That's correct - the NinjaTrader license key has no relationship with Machine ID.

Machine ID is used essentially only for licensing of custom indicators.

I have downloaded NT for free but now it's asking for a user licenses. What do I put in so I can use it just for charting and study on my laptop?

Hello skikg,

When you register for the download you were asked for an email address. That is where the license key will be sent.

You might need to check your SPAM folder in case it was routed there.

Just to clarify before I proceed

I have purchased a live license key with IB

I want to install that live license key on 2 computers A and B.

Computer A will be used for live/automated trading. It will therefore be configured to be in live mode.

Computer B will be used for strategy development purposes and as a backup if computer A fails. It will therefore be configured to be in sim mode until computer A actually fails.

So only 1 of computer A and B will be doing live trade at any given time. But NT will be used on both computer at the same time (in sim mode on B) and will connect to fetch data from IB on 2 different live and demo accounts.

Is this possible ? or am I forced to use a sim key for computer B ?

And if I dont connect to the IB demo account to fetch data on computer B and only use data from backup of NT database from computer A ( I dont actually need live data to do my development) ?

Hi,

That's correct - the sim key should be used here as well.

One way to think of it is that, if the license key is being used on one PC (if NinjaTrader is running with that key) the key cannot be used on another PC.

Charting on second Machine

Hi i was wondering what is the best practice if possible to Trade on one computer and chart on another. I want to set up my desktop station with the multiple screens for just charting then i would like to have my live account on my laptop.

If you plan on using NinjaTrader on two computers at the same time, one for live order entry and the other for technical analysis and charting you can use our free simulation license key on the PC that will not be used for order entry and a live license key on the laptop that you will be using for order entry.
