New protection system no longer beta

With the release of R4, it seems that the new protection system is no longer considered beta. Its not really an issue for me as I've already up to date. But, just curious about a couple of things:

    1. Does R4 upgrade a R2 or earlier even if you install it after Windows 7 SP1? There were work-arounds to do that with R3 beta, but, it would be nice if you made it work automatically.

    2. How long can people keep using R2 for people that don't yet have upgraded indicators?

    Hello Speedie6,

    1) Yes, you can install R4 going from a R2 installation. There are still specific steps that need to be followed for this that are included in the upgrade instructions for this release.

    2) If you have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed, then all versions prior to 7.0.1000.3 are not compatible. If you're not using Win 7 SP1, you can use R2 and earlier indefinitely. As all 3rd party vendors should be up to speed on the new protection software, we will require the most up to date versions for support cases, but users are welcome to use prior versions.

Well, to question 1, you didn't really answer. But, from the install instructions I see, it is unchanged from beta R3. You really should make your installer support upgrading an R2 or earlier after installing Win 7 SP1. But, I guess its water under the bridge now.
