PFG unable to connect to PFGAPI.exe

    Hi,

I can't connect to PFG with this message:

"Login failed: Unable to connect to PFGAPI.exe. Did you install PFG client yet?"

But I installed PFG client (version 1.0.458) and see that it work (in task manager).
    Why I can't connect?

    Hi fxcom,

    Thank you for your note.

Based on the PFG API you are using you are using the most current version of NinjaTrader, but can you please confirm the version you are using by going to Help > About and then please see that the version of NinjaTrader you are presently using is 7.0.1000.2.

If that is the case, and the message you are seeing indicates that you can not connect to PFG with the correct API then can you please uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader. This will not be a full reinstall as it will leave your user settings in tact.

Please follow the steps listed below to completely uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader:
    1. Close all running applications.
    2. Then from the Start menu select --> Control Panel --> Add and Remove Programs.
    3. From Add and Remove Programs select NinjaTrader 7 and click Remove.
    4. Then you will need to clear your internet browser cache and history. You will clear this from within your internet browser (with IE, Tools-->Options, delete cookies and files, clear history).
    5. Reboot your machine.
    6. Once these steps are completed, download NT7 from the link below:
      Download

Please let us know if you are able to get up and running after the reinstall.

        Hi,

Can you please clarify the version of NinjaTrader you are using by going to Help > About and please let me know if you are using 7.0.1000.2.

The reinstall steps were based on the fact that with the PFG API version you installed that you were using that current version, and if that PFG API version is installed then doing a reinstall of NinjaTrader, but not a full reinstall as your settings will remain in place, should resolve the issue.

          Yes I'm using 7.0.1000.2.

And I think you have more friendly way for resolving this problem.
Without all uninstall and all install + reboot machine.

            fxcom,

You can try removing, repairing and recreating the connection.
            • Please go to the Tools menu--> select Account Connections--> highlight the connection--> click Remove
            • Then please repair the database by going to Tools-->Options-->Data-->Repair DB
            • Restart NinjaTrader
            • Please go to the Tools menu--> select Account Connections and recreate the account connection.

However, if recreating the PFG connection does not resolve the issue then you will want to uninstall and reinstall NinjaTrader using the steps below.

                Hi fxcom,

Modifying the registry is not something that we can support, but the best option to resolve this would be the uninstall and reinstall. The process will not take much longer than 5 minutes since it is not a complete uninstall. If you please uninstall using the steps below then the issue with the PFG API should be resolved.

                4. Once these steps are completed, download NT7 from the link below:
                  Download

Please let us know if you are able to get up and running after the reinstall.

I have eliminated the other steps to streamline the process, and make it as smooth as possible for the resolution.

                  Hi fxcom,

I had the same issue and found a way to fix it. Here is the link to that post:

I know the procedure is tedious, but after many frustrations of trails and errors, the steps worked for me on three computers. Good luck

                    In first thanks to hcgaloi.

                    But my way was:

                    1. Install PFGAPI client. (after this can't connect).
                    2. Remove connection PFG from "account connection"
                    3. Uninstall NT.
                    4. Install NT
                    5. Set connection PFG in "account connection".
                    6. After this steps I can connect to PFG.

But I think all of this - "dance with tambourines". Because I don't know why PFG client don't worked and why PFG client begin normal work. And nobody of support don't tell us why it happened and what they will do for stable PFG client.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from 7.0.1000.1 to 7.0.1000.2.

I got around it by reinstalling the old version of PFGsetup.exe, and it worked.

I know this isn't the ideal solution, but I'm not in position the do a reinstall at the moment. I hope this problem will go away in the next release.

I'd have to agree with fxcom. Why is the solution always uninstall NT, then reinstall NT, or repair database, or uninstall API and reinstall API? That is the most dramatic fix for a program that I have ever heard. Problem with NT, oh, uninstall and reinstall! Piffle!

Why does NT constantly have issues that do not in any way relate to its ability to chart and perform? Why are many of them related to communication with the OS, or lack of it?

I mean, I really love the software when it is working well. But if I had $1 for every time I have had to do an uninstall/reinstall, repair DB etc, well......I'd have maybe $50!

Seriously though, why is it that when I use a charting package like MT4, all of the historical data I download is stored locally and the package opens in a second with all of my charts showing my indicators with no issues? Why does NT have to download this data again each time I connect to it. Workspaces should open in seconds, not 3 or 4 minutes. I don't care if I put 16 pairs in a workspace, it should open much more quickly. The only data it should require to download is anything new from the last time I opened it.

And here's a thing, Windows 7 64 bit has been around since October 2009. Why does NT not work more seamlessly with it? MT4 is running as a 32 bit program and flies on my machine. NT lags along getting the job done.

                        Lift your game NT.

                        regards

This worked for me. After spending over an hour with PFG and their remote access, we could not get it to work. Did this route and it worked on restart.... I made sure to have the PFGAPI installed first.... before reinstalling the NT7. It kept all my previous NT settings, thanks Ryan.

Just FYI too. PFG support were very good and patient, hats off to them even though they couldn´t find a resolution...

This did NOT work for me.

Had to do the de-install / re-install which worked straight away. 5 mins.
