New to NinjaTrader. No data coming in... ?

    New to NinjaTrader. No data coming in... ?

    Complete newbie to Ninja. In my Interactive Brokers acct, in the API settings, I enabled Active X as IB rep said to. He said should be good to go on their end. Downloaded NinjaTrader 7 and supplied License key OK. However when I start the program, no data coming in. Tried to pull up a 1m chart of $EURUSD. Nothing but a white screen. ???

    Would appreciate if someone could help me get this going.

    PS Once get it going, wondering how to import indicators and templates.

    Hello Jim,

    Thank you for your post.

    Please answer the following questions so I may further assist:
    • What version of NinjaTrader do you currently have installed which can be found under Help-->About.
    • What version of TWS do you currently have installed?
    • Are you connecting to a Live IB account or a Demo?
    • Are you showing as connected in the lower left hand corner of the Control Center?
    • Are you receiving data within the Orders tab of the Control Center?
    • Are there any error messages in the Log tab of the Control Center?
    • What time interval chart are you attempting to open?
    • When you right mouse click within your chart are you able to Reload historical data or is the option grayed out?

    I look forward to assisting you further with this issue.

      Here are the answers to your questions.

      Ninjatrader 7.0.1000.2
      IB TWS 4.0
      LIVE IB acct
      No words(ie "Connected") that I can see in lower left of control center
      No data in order tab
      Don't see any error messages in log. Just default and connection messages
      1minute chart
      Reload historical data grayed out

      I did notice that current license type is Simulation Only

        This indicates you are not currently connected. If you have not configured your IB connection within NinjaTrader please visit the link I have provided below for steps on how to configure this within NinjaTrader.



        Once you have configured your connection please go to File-->Connect-->Select your IB connection.

        Please let me know if the issue persists after this procedure.

          Would you have a link to help in importing indicators and templates?

          Also, a friend has an indicator that may only work in Ver 6. Would I have to uninstall ver 7 if I wanted to install 6 and use 6

            Hello,

            If you want to transfer everything to another PC such as settings, templates, ect. the best way is to create a backup file and transfer this to restore on the other PC:

            More information about creating a Backup and how to Restore can be found at the link I have provided below:


            There are code breaking changes in NT7 which means not all 6.5 indicators are compatible with 7 right out of the box. Please see information here on getting your 6.5 indicators over into NT7 and then getting it to be NT7 compatible:



            Please see the "Migrating NinjaScript" section.

            You may have both NinjaTrader 6.5 and 7 installed on the same PC however you may not have both versions open at the same time.

              I think you misunderstood. I'm not looking to transfer between computers. I'm looking to import custom indicators and templates from a Zip file into Ninja.
