Negative Bar Timer

The time on my bar timer indicator generally runs well into the negative before it starts over again. I'm on a 3 minute chart so I will see something like Time Remaining = -00:01:30 before it resets. Does not happen all the time so what is it trying to tell me? Does this indicate a data/display lag?

It means that there has not been a tick that would open a new bar come in yet.

So it's not volume driven? It means that the price must tick higher or lower in order to open a new bar?

Time based bars are time driven and require a tick with a time stamp that falls in the next bar before the next bar is opened.
