IB - Save Chart Data As Historical

NT Options for "Save Chart Data As Historical"

Do I need this checked if using IB? Does it matter in anyway?

    Thanks,
    R.T.

    Hello R.T,

If you have a provider that offers historical data already, then unchecking this can give you a performance boost. If IB supplies you with historical data then it is overwritten each time you request data.

      Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the reply... I only use IB live equities account for trading live through NT..

So does this statement "If IB supplies you with historical data then it is overwritten each time you request data. " mean that it is complelty redundant to check the option box? Or is there a need/advantage to save the historical IB data coming in from IB in the database?

      Thanks for clarifying,
      R.T.

        RT,

If you always have a live internet connection then you should be able to request data at any point. IB does limit the number of requests you can make in a given amount of time. If this doesn't affect you then there isn't an advantage to saving the historical data.

          Thanks Ryan,

It does seem like IB is giving me many more data request errors... would these likely be limited by saving historical data to the DB?

Unfortunately not. The only way to turn off historical data requests is through the account connection, and this will then apply to all requests.

That option just makes the data available in case you get that message and are temporarily unable to request from servers.

okay, thanks, so I am best off just not saving any IB historical data and leaving unchecked to get a bit more performance correct?

              Thanks again,
              R.T.

Is this for NT7? I don't see this option "Save Chart Data As Historical" on NT6.5 that I am using.

                  Hi millridge,

                  Thank you for your post.

You'll find the option in 6.5 by clicking Tools > Options > Data tab.
