Attaching a strategy to a chart vs strategy tab

I am not clear on the differences between attaching a strategy to chart vs using the strategy tab. Does it have to do with the fact that when attaching to the chart all the data on the chart is used to calculate the strategy and when using the strategy tab only the current session (based on input time) is used? When is it best to use the chart and when is best to use the strategy tab?

Also, if my strategy uses a monthly pivot indicator (which requires data for the prior month) how can I make sure the strategy using either the chart or strategy tab is getting the correct amount of data to calculate that pivot point?

Tim, the strategy tab would just be used if you wanted to run the strategy automatically with the least amount of resources used - in 6.5 it would use the default chart lookbacks then for loading the data, you can set them under Tools > Options > Data.
