Will 6.5 work with windows 7?

My laptop gave out on me. I was using 6.5 with Win Xp. I am being told that I can't get XP on anything but a netbook. IWill 6.5 work with windows 7? am using Amp/Zenfire for data

I read something that talked about having to uninstall service patch 1 of Windows 7. Is that still the case?
