    Very, very slow

    Hi NT Support,

NT has gotten to the point where when I click on the Backtest option in the strategy analyzer the Windows Vista spinning wheel comes up. NT then doesn’t come back from its “Not Responding” state for about 2 mins. Can anything be done?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Config:
    NT 6.5
    OS: Vista Home Premium

    Kind regards,

    Dan

P.S. please don’t give me the answer to create a new database, I’ve got years of back data imported in to the current one.

      Ryan,

      Thanks very much for that.

I appreciate the prompt response. Unfortunately, none of those really relate to my problem. As per the original post, this slowness / non-responsiveness occurs when using the Strategy Analyzer, not with chat update times.

In addition, it has become unstable. A number of times now I’ve had to kill the NT process and restart. I’ve been had to reboot the PC.

I have checked the “Show Diagnostics Tab” step (which is the one which could be the which applies here) with no luck.

      Thanks and regards,

      Dan

        Hi Dan,

I'm aware that you told me not to suggest it, but you should look into renaming your database.

Renaming will not cause it to be deleted, and you can restore if the size of the database is not contributing here.

You can also look into version 7, which offers a new database technology with increased efficiency.

        To rename the DB:
        • Shutdown NinjaTrader and Go to the Start Menu
        • Select My Documents--> NinjaTrader 6.5--> DB--> NinjaTrader.MDB.
        • Right click on NinjaTrader.MDB and select "Rename."
        • Name it "NewNinjaTrader.MDB."
        • Then restart the software.

If you need to restore your original database, then delete NinjaTrader.mdb and rename yours from NewNinjaTrader.mdb to NinjaTrader.mdb

Turn off animated mouse cursors in Control Panel = no more vista spinning wheel.

              Ryan,

              Thanks again for the reply.

Can I make sure I understand, you are saying that I do the following:

              1. Back-up my old database
              2. Create a new database (by your procedure below)
              3. Restore my old database into the new one (whereby restoring my years of imported data and historical executions)

Just to check NT7 is still in beta? If so, I'm not sure that's a solution to the live production problem with NT6.

              Thanks and regards,

              Dan

                Hello drolles,

Yes – the procedure outlined by Ryan will allow you recourse in the event that the database is not the contributing factor in the platform’s slowness. In other words, it will allow you to restore the old database.

NinjaTrader 7 is still in Beta/test.

Please let me know if this renaming of the NinjaTrader database does not resolve the slowness issue.
