    commisions

    Hi,

How do I set $60 per trade (round turn) as the commission when running a backtest on a currency pair?

    Thank you.

    Hello werido,

Please see the link below how commissions can be setup in NinjaTrader.

You can setup commissions in the Instrument Manager as well. These will override the commissions you have setup in the Options menu.

A minimum commission will apply commissions per side per order.

A commission level will apply commissions per side per contract/share.

You would need to enter a minimum commission of 30, so it will calculate a commission of $60 per order (round turn).

Once you setup commissions in either the Options menu or Instrument Manager, please make sure to enable 'Include commission' in the Backtest parameter window.

      Hi Jason,

Which broker do I use to set the commission if I'm only using it to run the strategy analyzer irrespective of broker? I put 30 in both fields under the broker I use and clicked true for include commission in the backtest but it's not working.
What's the difference between the "commission levels" field and "minimum commission" field?

      Thanks.

You will need to setup commissions for 'Simulator'.

A minimum commission will apply commissions per side per order.

A commission level will apply commissions per side per contract/share.

            HI,

I was trying to get a round turn commission to be $60 so I set minimum commission to $30, but I'm getting a weird outcome in the trades tab -- it's showing some round turn trades as $60 but some as $45 (see attached).
Where is this $45 comming from? Do I need to set "commision levels" somehow too to be getting only $60 for each round turn? What am I doing wrong?

            Thanks.

              Hello werido,

Can you please tell me if all trades refer to the same instrument. Or do trade #3 and 4 refer to a different instrument than trade #1, 2 and 5?

You can setup commission at two locations in NinjaTrader. Where did you setup the $60 round turn commission - the Options-->Commission-tab or in the Instrument Manager?

A minimum commission of $30 will calculate a commission of $60 per trade, so it is setup correcty.

                HI,

It's the same instrument. I set up commissions in instrument manager for only that instrument. I don't understand where $45 can possibly be coming from?

Unfortunately I am not sure why there is a difference either. Do you notice anything different about trade #3 and 4 compared to trade #1, 2 and 5? Could it be they were executed in a different account than the others?

Am I correct the screenshot is taken from the Strategy Analyzer?

Can you please check if you perhaps have commissions setup in the Instrument Manager. Please go to Tools-->Instrument Manager, highlight the instrument in question and click Edit. Select the Misc-tab and check if commissions are setup.

They're all working on "backtest" account. I can't see any difference between them, any reason or logic or pattern. I'm attaching the screenshot of the setting in instrument manager. I then tried setting the whole currency-->simulator to $60 in the options-->commissions tab and that didn't change it either (I'm attaching a screenshot of that too).

Can you please tell me what happens if you run the same backtest again - does it still list commissions of $45?

Do you experience commission values of $45 when you backtest other strategies/instruments?

It's the same, random $45. I tried it on another instrument....same thing.

Although, I just tried it on another strategy and there's no $45 issue....

I also did notice that all repeat commands in the strategy seem to be getting the $45 commission. The commands are repeated in the strategy but have different labels. But although all of those seem to get the $45 commissions, many others are too.

Am I correct that the SampleMACrossOver strategy only lists commissions of $60 if you backtest it?

Does the issue only occur for the strategy you backtested so far?

Unfortunately I am not very familiar with programming and not sure what is indicated by 'repeat commands'. However, as per your description it seems to cause the $45 commission.

I suggest to debug your strategy so commissions will be calculated as expected. You can find general debug information at the link below.
