    Range bar plotting issue

    Hello,

i was using range bars recently and was wondering why they do not look smooth... there are a lot of little gaps between the bars... so the open of the new bar is actually never the close of the previous bar - however this should be the case right? (except of a huge gap of course...)

    I have attached a image of the 6E 4-pip-range-bar

My data comes from zen-fire by the way...

So is this a issue with zen-fire or ninjatrader?

    thanks, bye!

    Hello,

Yes, that is expected since ticks don't always come in one right after another. Basically there was no tick for that price level and you get a small gap.

...but the little gap between the bars are almost constantly one pip... this seems strange to me... i talked to other traders who use different charting platforms and they do not have these little gaps between the bars...

is there nothing i can do about it?

        ikeaboy,

I didn't like the little gaps myself.

Here is my version without the little gaps.

        NT7

        NT6.5

        Enjoy,

          looks great thank you RJay

but this is not an indicator is it?

can i trade off these bars or do they not reflect the "real" prices (like heikin ashi bars...)

by the way: how do i install it?

            Hello ikeaboy,

I will let rt6176 to comment on the scripts they posted.

To import custom NinjaScript indicators &/or strategies you will do the following:
            1. From the Control Center window select the menu File > Utilities > Import NinjaScript to open the Import NinjaScript dialog window
            2. Select the file you want to import
            3. Press the "Open" button

Run this bar type and range bar type side by side. Observe their performance and decide for yourself.

I use this chart type daily with confidence.

going to give it a try cuz i have also found that to be annoying, and can sometimes be confusing. i was just wondering why this isnt the way its built into NT?

also, is this only needed on 4range charts? the higher range bars dont have this problem?

                      Hi madLyfe,

Yes, there are a few different range bar implementations out there and use of one or the other is really a traders' preference. The range bars used currently are based on feedback we received during NT7s development.

does the situation at which is addressed here only happen on 4range bars?

less chance happening on a higher range chart.
