CL Backtesting - Calling all oil bugs!

Could anyone offer any insight on when to when a particular contract should be used for backtesting a strategy on CL?

Hello,

I am sure there are other factors, but one big one is that you want to be sure the market is liquid enough. Your orders may not get the fill you want if there is not sufficient volume of trading. Also, use the most recent front month if it is liquid enough for you.

So unlike other contracts (second thursday etc) you think I should go and look at volume/price action on each of the charts to decide at what point I should change them over for the strategy analyzer?

You could do that. Its up to you. Different traders do it differently. Some want a good amount of volume some don't care as much. I was say trade when your system works best, but that is your call.
