NT behind a FireWall

When NT 6.5 or 7 are behind a (Strong !) firewall, which ports/protocols do I have to open to ensure the communications ?

NinjaTrader submits HTTPS requests to the following URLs:

• www.ninjatrader.com
• www.ninjatrader-support.com
• www.ninjatrader-support2.com

In addition, broker/provider software would connect to their servers which would be beyond our control. However, the respective broker/provider should have the information you would need available. For some setups, you could find that information in the account connection wizard.

In this case, we receive data from Zen-Fire. In the account connection wizard, we just have to input user and password. Does it mean that the ticks are coming thru the https as well (www.ninjatrader.com, www.ninjatrader-support.com and www.ninjatrader-support2.com) ?

No, the data would be coming in from Zen-Fire servers. You would need to contact your broker (or, if this is a data trial, the party that is providing that trial) to determine which ports and IPs are being used.

Hello, what type of inbound or outbound traffic is coming from the ninjatrader URL's you mention in posts below, for example, www.ninjatrader-support.com? also, what would happen if we dont "allow" connections to these three URL's in our firewall, would NT still work properly? do we need to allow connections to any other URL's, domain names, or IP addresses in our firewall rules in order for NT to work properly? thank you.

Hello Rocket130713,

HTTPS traffic will come from these URL's. If these URL's are not allowed, it will be impossible for NinjaTrader to verify it's license and the software would be prevented from connecting to any live data feed.

Beyond these NinjaTrader exceptions, you would also need to allow traffic from your broker or data provider. It's typically best to contact the broker/data provider directly to request that information.

Thanks Kyle. I see what you mean. We need to be able to connect to ninjatrader.com (IP address 74.200.197.218) so that NT can connect to the license server.

But why would my PC need to be able to connect to both www.ninjatrader-support.com and www.ninjatrader-support2.com URL's (domain names) why is this needed? What type of traffic would be coming from or sent to these URL's (servers)? What would happen if we blocked these 2 URL's on our firewall, would NT still work OK?

You would need to unblock both of these URLs in order to reach the primary and backup license server. If the URLs are blocked, it will be impossible for NinjaTrader to verify your license and therefore impossible for you to connect to your brokerage account.
