    ATM Stop Limit offset

So i just used an ATM strat for the first time to trade ES, and while i set my stop loss to 10 ticks, a stop limit was placed at my broker with the stop at 10 ticks, but the limit 30 ticks away...obviously, this would cause me to lose 3x my intended stop amount.

I've read up on the forums that this 20 tick offset is built in.

I have two questions -- first, is this fixed in NT 7 and if so where do i change it?

Second, this seems to render ATM strategies pretty much useless for trading ES. Given the popularity of the product and of ES, i figure I must be missing something. How are people supposed to work around this?

    Hello bridenour,

    Thank you for your post.

Yes, a second Stop Order is automatically put into place when trading with an ATM Strategy as a safegaurd. I am not aware of this being adjustable within NinjaTrader 7 but I will however forward this to our development team for future considerations.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

      Hi,

Am i confused about how this works?

I set the ATM to have a stop at 10 Ticks.

Instead, what i got was a stop limit order with-
the stop set at 10 ticks purchase price
the limit order at 30 ticks from purchase price

Wouldnt this mean my stop would actually execute at 30 ticks away instead of 10 like i requested?

      thanks

        Hi,

If you have your Stop Loss set within your ATM Strategy to 10 ticks your Stop Loss Order will be submitted at this price. The additional Limit Order will also be submitted in case your original Stop Loss order at 10 ticks is not executed at the desired price.

I only get two orders submitted from my ATM:

          1) A limit order at the profit target

          2) A stop limit order (stop at the stop loss target, but limit 20 ticks further off)

Did you get a final verdict on this, or figure out a workaround? I'm having the same problem, and it's not addressed in NT 7.0.0.22.

                jd.miami,

Can you elaborate on what issue you're seeing? (20 tick offset or stops placed at prices not configured within the ATM strategy?)

it sure would be nice if you guys would treat this application like a traders platform and not a technical toy.

the atm properties default has the stop offset set to off and when you place an order you have the option of setting the stop offset number.

does this mean by default the offset is not set?

what happens if my stop loss is not satisfied?
