What was the solution to this problem? I am having the same problem with barchart.com.

My account is set to 100M and I am trading tiny amounts of FX. But I after leaving my paper trading running for an hour or so, when I got back from the gym all the strategies had stopped:

        Messages, such as:
"barchart.com. Order has exceeded available account equity: Please reduce order size affected: Buy 4100 Limit @ 0.93266"

The total realised PL was only about -$500.

Yes, it was quite an irritating problem, can't remember what the actual solution was but these are my settings for the Account Simulator Tab and I haven't had any problems since...

          Initial Cash: 50,000,000
          Margin: 0.30
          Main Margin: 0.30
          Margin / unit: 1000

          Hope this helps

Will do. I just set off my strategies again and will go and buy some dinner and see what happens when I get back.

Do the values in "control panel -> accounts" come from barchart.com or do they come from NT only?

Also, when the ordered is rejected due to equity, is it barchart.com server that rejected the order or is it NT rules that flagged the reject?

              I am using unmanaged orders.

              Thanks,
              Matthew.

The "cash value" goes up by 1.3M when the realised PL goes up by $13.

                What is that all about?

How is the "cash value" being calculated? What are the formulas for the numbers in the "control panel -> account" tab?

Attached is a screen grab (note that the PL is higher here, because it was taken a few minutes after the $13 profit and it happened to make a bit more profit by then). The starting account was 100M.

So it looks like if I lose $500 then that is reflected as a cash value drop of $50M... Is that right? Perhaps that is why the orders get rejected after such small losses are incurred?

Please post the formulas for the quantities in the "Control Panel -> Accounts Tab"

                Thanks,
                Matthew.

I will need to do some testing on my end and will follow up as soon as I gather additional information.

Those settings did not prevent the same thing from happenning again last night.

As you can see from the attached, the total loses (intraday drawdown) were only $383.17 - but the Buying Power dropped to -$49,374,042.25.

Could you please post the formulas which are used to calculate these numbers?

                      Hello,

I have concluded testing on my end and think I found a solution. Please go to Tools-->Options-->Simulator tab and set your Margin/unit to 1 as apposed to 1000-->Reset Simulator.

Please let me know if the issue persists after this procedure.

                        Hi Christopher,

The problem still occur with the number set to 1.

Could you post the formulas for the values in the accounts tab and some info on what affects them and and what they affect?

                        thanks,
                        Matthew.

Unfortunately I have no documentation available on the formulas.

Can you please confirm you have reset your simulation account after setting the Margin/unit to 1.

I have attached a screen shot of my Accounts tab showing my cash value subtracting the $70 loss correctly.

Please attach a screen shot of your Accounts tab after the adjustment had been made and please tell me what you have your initial cash set to within the Simulator tab.

My initial cash is set to $100M.

A loss of $12.76 results in a cash value of $98,724,165.93 which is $1,275,834.07 less than $100M. So there is a factor of 100,000 creeping in somewhere. 100,000 is usually the lot size for Forex if that is useful info.

Hi, this issue is still outstanding for me. I cannot forward test my systems on NT because a draw down of $100 causes a "loss" of millions of dollars. The leverage is wrong somewhere.

Could somebody please just post the formulas that relate the values which I can input to NT via the options window to the "Cash Value" and "Equity" numbers on the accounts tab so that I can try to work out what values to use?

                                Thanks,
                                Matthew.
