Connection stability

I use two connections; i) zen fire, and ii) IB.

1) Is there any reason why my zen fire connection is much more stable than my IB connection? My IB connection is lost quite frequently, whereas my ZF connection is usually solid as a rock. (This has been typical over the last 12 months.)

2) Is there a way to trap when a connection is lost? If this is possible , I could then send a email alert so that some form of action can be taken

astrolobe, different connections will exhibit different stability characteristics, especially if for example you connect to one of them through another backbone, perhaps trying another ISP to compare would be good.
