What do you think? Will NT run faster if I downgrade from Vista to XP?

I would do a search in the forums for XPLite.

I did a nice tutorial for tweaking an NT box.

You make excellent points. No reason not to Google or otherwise look up the service first if it's not obvious, and of course, I completely agree with you - why run a print spooling service if you never print from your trading platform CPU.

My process is admittedly tedious, but has the benefit of immediately knowing if something is mission-critical. That being said, I fully admit to turning off a whole bunch of stuff at once and winging it. It usually works.

You are also certainly correct that all those little startup apps and services burn RAM like it's going out of style, and heaven forbid one of those has a memory leak...
Printing - one reason would be if you need to save anything as PDF ;-)

            Hi

My trading computer runs NT on Windows XP. I occassionally have an intermittent problem with my MB Trading account whereby I lose the NT connection to MB Trading and can't reconnect without restarting my trading computer.

On this support forum, in relation to another OP's post on the NT - MB Trading connection, I found the following statement...
With Windows XP SP2, if you have more than 10 open TCPIP socket connections open (10 programs making connections through the internet) windows will randomly shut down some connections
I would like to check whether this might be my problem, but have no idea how to check how many TCPIP connections I have open ...

            Can you help?

            Thanks!

Unfortunately I am not sure how to check this in Windows XP SP2 either. I suggest to contact Windows Support for assistance.

I searched the web and found the link below that provides a patch to workaround the limitation. Use it at own risk.

I've uploaded the patch, and I'll see how I get on.

                Many thanks.
