    Hi trader_rick1234,

    Thank you for your reply.

Exactly. Historical bars will build over time, but only when connected and displaying the instrument.

For a complete listing of the types of historical data available from each provider, please see the following link: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...HistoricalData

    edit:

I think I understand now. So the reason I was getting 30 sec charts for SSO, was because I had been on screen all day and saved as historical data.

When I bring up a new chart like INTC, there was absolutely no data saved, but if I wait long enough, the chart will plot over time.

BTW, I guess when looking for a data provider, and I need second chart compatibility, I should ask about historical ticks?

Also I guess there is another way to build second charts? I dunno, the reason I ask, is that other software I have tried does show the second chart. Well the 30 second chart even on fresh stocks that I just pull up.

    Hello trader_rick1234,

Note that second charts are created with historical tick data.

Unfortunately historical tick data is not supported with TD AMERITRADE.
If you switch to a chart interval that is build on historical tick data, you will not load any historical data from TD AMERITRADE. However, it could be you saved incoming real-time tick data during previous sessions in the NinjaTrader database. Next time you open up a chart for the same instrument, the data you received in real-time previous sessions, will now be displayed as historical data.

So upon switching to a 30 seconds interval, it can occur you receive a blank chart, but you should receive real-time data in the chart.

Yes, I am missing bars while connected (during market hours), I like to switch views from say 5 minutes, 3, minutes,..all the way to 30 second charts. So I did that with SSO, and everything was perfectly fine.

Then I wanted to look at another instrument. So I brought up INTC. And no chart showed. I thought it was a glitch and so I switched back to the 1 minute chart. And the chart was fine again. But every time I go to the 30 second chart, it will not plot the chart with INTC (or GOOG which I also tried.)

If I leave it on a 30 second time interval, but then switch intruments to say SSO, the chart plots perfectly fine.

So some instruments show a 30 second chart and some don't! I thought it might be a volume problem, but INTC and GOOG are pretty high volume. Is there anything I can do?

    Hi trader_rick1234,

    Thank you for your reply.

Sorry, I'm not following. Are you saying that you were missing bars from times when you were connected?

But it also happened while I was connected during market hours. The SSO chart would show perfectly but other charts would not. Actually the SSO chart also showed historical data back a few days. This was all while being connected during market hours. Is this right? Anyway to fix?

    Hi trader_rick1234,

    Thank you for your reply.

Because TD Ameritrade provides historical data in minute and daily formats only, this can be expected. NinjaTrader will display bars only from the times that you are connected and displaying the instrument. I believe this is what you are seeing in your chart.

It's very hard to say. The chart is a mess. I does show 3 days of "data", by which I mean it shows that 3 market days have passed. I know this because I mark the beginning of a day with a dashed vertical line.

But it only shows maybe 3 or 5 bars for the day. Again, this only happens with some stocks. SSO chart shows up fine. Even the indicators chart fine. A bar every 30 seconds if I have the 30 sec chart on. But for INTC for example, garbage shows up. I guess some data shows up, but only a few bars. And the indicators like stochastic are totally blank.

    Hi trader_rick1234.

    Thank you for your post.

On the 30 tick chart, when you say there is no data, do you mean there is no historical data or no live data or both?
Same question for the 30 second chart as well.

    started a topic tick charts

    tick charts

When I try to plot tick (say 30 ticks), there seems to be no data. 150 Ticks looks fine. Also, on say SSO any tick interval is fine, but say on INTC, there shows no data. Is that something that is dependent on my data feed? Is it related to volume? Same for 30 second chart. I tried GOOG and INTC. Why won't it plot a chart? (I have Ameritrade as the data provider)
