    eSignal EOD/minute service?

    Hello,
I would like to use the fairly new eSignal EOD service which provides minute-level data, to back test various strategies before setting up a real-time service. I've tried to connect to eSignal EOD with my user account there, but no-go, Ninja says "connection failed". In the Ninja connection setup, I tried clearing out the tick-data server and other fields, except for the minute data server, but get the same error.
Will Ninja be supporting this service from eSignal?
    Thanks, Jim

    Hello Jim,

I am not familiar with this eSignal service.

Are you able to export the eSignal data to a .txt file?

If so, you could import it into NinjaTrader once converted to the correct format. More information here: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...V6/Import.html

I am able to export data, and actually tried
this approach first, after converting the exported
data to the format Ninja wants. Apparently Ninja
read the data ok (I'd set up a YM instrument for it),
but when I create a chart I see no contents displayed
and could not figure out how to go further. So I tried
eSignal directly. But, if you can provide some tips
on displaying imported data, that would meet my needs
      if it works. Thanks, Jim

        Hi Jim,

Make sure that the name of the .txt file is the EXACT instrument name in NinjaTrader. So, you would name it YM 09-09 for example. This would load data into the YM 09-09 contract.

Naming the file exactly worked - I also added the ".txt" extension, don't know if that was needed or not, thanks.

The eSignal data I'm using is called OnDemand, does NT support that? It offers minute-level bars as requested. If not supported, will you do so in the future?

          Thanks, Jim

How can they? According to the eSignal documentation (which you should have read when you signed up), the OnDemand service has no support for third party applications. Means: eSignal does not provide an interface for some other application (like Ninja Trader) to access the data.

So, how should that work? It is one of the limiations that eSiangl on demand has - no other applications. You get, in return, a cheaper price

You will have to go "real" with eSignal - the pro version supports an API.

Thanks for pointing that out. No problem though, I'm only
using eSignal OnDemand to get 1-minute historical data for
backtesting strategies on NT before going live. The workaround
of exporting data from eSignal, modifying its format, then
importing into NT works for this purpose.

Once I go live, I'll pick another data source anyway for real-time
and historical, certainly not eSignal given their real-time service has
gone way up in price, now over-priced IMHO....

              Cheers, Jim
