New NT v.: Auto-import 1000's of contracts' meta-data (not manually via IntrumentMgr)

    Ninja Trader Development Team,

Our traders are using Ninja Trader to backtest over 10,000 contracts for over 100 futures products from around the world with much success, but they get tired of having to manually add new contracts to Ninja Trader via the Instrument Manager by hand whenever new contracts for a product begin trading.

They want me to make it possible to auto-import all the contract meta-data into Ninja Trader with the click of a button from an external Windows Form application.

I have already accomplished this in RightEdge. All I had to do was get all the contract meta-data from our SQL Server 2005 database and write it to the XML file that RightEdge uses when it displays the contract tree view like NinjaTrader displays on the left hand side of the Strategy Analyzer.

The traders would love to be able to do auto-import contract meta-data from our SQL Server 2005 database in the next version of NinjaTrader.

Thanks a lot for considering my request!

This is outside what is currently supported but may be of some help. Attached is a Instruments.txt file. If you put this in the My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\db folder and start NinjaTrader, it will suck up this file and replace all instruments in your database with the ones in this file.

See attached. The only support we have is what is documented in this file.

          NinjaTrader_Ray,

          Thank you very much!

I think this is what I need.

I have searched my whole hard drive, and can't find an "Instruments.txt" file that matches what I currently have.

Is there any way that I can generate an "Instruments.txt" file for what I currently have in NinjaTrader on my machine?

I could use your sample file, but it would be easier to start with a "Instruments.txt" file that matches my current configuration.

          Thanks,

          ChiTrader2000

FINALLY!!! after days of searching how to do this :-) :-)

I am so glad there is a way to import complete instrument lists within NinjaTrader.
I've run a quick test and it looks like this is still working THANKS!!!! And please keep it working as this is the only way a decent import of stock lists can be done including names and mappings.

Could you please post an update of this file since Kinetick is a new provider in NT7

I created a Instrument.txt file for the Indian market. the same works fine in NT6.5, but NOT in NT7. as i understood NT7 has more than 14 fields which was the case for NT6.5.

Can support upload an sample Instrument.txt file for NT7 like Ray has uploaded one for NT6.5 in post 4 in this thread so that i could make a copy for the Indian markets.

I am appending 1000+ symbols, so its not possible manually. hope you understand and be considerate

                  thanks in advance
