Adding a new symbol

I never know which stocks are going to hit my scanner so I need to enter new symbols quickly.

How do I add a new symbol to the master list fast.

Vespasian, welcome to our NinjaTrader support forums! The quickest way to add equity symbols is the 'On the fly' method - just open a chart or Dynamic SuperDOM and type in the ticker symbol in the name field, a new 'On the fly' instrument will be created then automatically.

Sometimes that works but sometimes I get the attached message. This is happening now with FAS even though it is showing in the Instument Manager and is on my default list. What to do?

bkout, do you get the data correctly in IB / TWS itself? Did you try to reconnect fresh to TWS in case there were some data farm issues at IB?

For some reason I can get FAS now. I'm trying to get SMH though and getting the same error message I posted before. I see SMH correctly and trading in TWS. I don't want to disconnect at the moment because I have strategies running. Don't think that's the problem though because I've run into this before and generally there's been no problem with the Ninja TWS connection or data as far as auto trading go. It's just when I want to see a new symbol that there's a problem. BTW SMH is on my default list also.

Have you tried removing the symbol from the default list and then readding it fresh?
