Pivot Points for FX in MA

I am struggling to get the pivot points in Market Analyzer to agree with the pivot points that are on my chart that do agree with a couple of websites.
I have tried adjusting market open and close in the properties menu and that doesn't seem to change the values at all.

Is there a trick to gettting this to work please.

    Hi Rob,

    Thank you for your post.

When you add the pivots indicator to the Market Analyzer, there are several settings you need to check that tell you what data is used for calculation.
Check this with the pivots indicator in the chart.
You want to look at "PivotRange Type," and "PriorDayHLC." You can also input user defined values below to ensure that they match up.

I checked those settings. They matched up with the chart settings.

I just wanted to make sure that The data series in the MA should be Day with a setting of 1?

I have tried to change the exchange time which is a little tricky due to FX running 24 hours the correct close is 5pm NYK and it effectively opens again at 5:01pm.

I am struggling to be able to load these times as the exchange times.

What instrument, and what data feed are you using so I can test?

          I am using IB

The calculations are out for all the major pairs.
I also tried to change from displaying the PP to S1 or R1 and the same values were displayed, which is very odd.
The values for the pivot points and S & R for the CCy pairs are calculated correctly on the chart it is just that I can't seem to get them feeding through to MA.

EUR for example todays Pivot pPoint on the chart is 1.3905, which I have confirmed with a couple of websites. MA spits out 1.3940 for S2,S1,PP,R2 & R1.

          Thanks

          Rob

            Hello Rob,

I just testing by setting my MA session begins and ends to match my chart.
I used 9:30 AM (Eastern) as begin and 4:30 PM (Eastern) as end in both the chart and Market Analyzer.
            I have:
            In Market Analyzer:
            "Type" is "Minute"
            "Value" is "5"

            In both windows:
"Calculate on bar close" as "False"
            "PivotRange Type" is "Daily"
            "Plot" is "PP"
            "PriorDayHLC" is "DailyBars"
            "Width" is "20"

Both the Market Analyzer and chart show PP as 1.3905.

*This is all done with 5 min data.

Can you test with these settings? Also try restarting NinjaTrader to test.

I'm also using IB and I have followed the guidelines, but the MA shows no values for the standard build in Pivot Points. I'm using AAPL as test example. The Chart shows the Pivot Points fine. Both places refers to <Instrument settings> on 'Session template'. Any idea to what setting I could have set wrong in the MA? Or is the MA not showing any values, because the markets are currently closed (i.e. Sunday)?

                  Hello Saxo,

In the Market Analyzer for the Pivots column, do you have the Data Series type set to an intra-day setting? (minute, ticket, etc) If so, wait until you have live intra-day data when the market is open tomorrow and let me know if it starts working. The Market Analyzer does require at least 1 tick in live data in order to show the calculation result.

                    Hi Ray,
it has been a while since I reported this issue - but I have come back to revisit it. I'm having huge problems getting the MA to work they way I would expect it to work. I just tried to see the PP for YI 03-13 in the MA. I can see 'latest price' (and it updates) in the grid - but when it comes to PP I see 0.000, latest price, latest close price or some number that I can't match to any lines I see in the chart (the chart that appears to work fine). I'm getting my data via IB, so I don't want to download more data than necessary - so the minimal settings for what shows me todays PP is what I'm looking for (I don't want to download more bars than absolutely needed for the calculation). The session template for the MA is set to 'Default 24/7'. Could you list all your setting and elaborate on what the settings mean in terms of their influence on how the PP is calculated? I.e. I don't want the value from e.g. 3 days ago (don't know if that is possible at all in the MA - if I put in Price based on 'Last' + Type 'Day' + Value '3'); I don't want the PP for tomorrow to be calculated based on the high/low that has been made so far today (is that what the 'CalcFromIntraDay' is used for?).

                    / Saxo

PS: Is my understanding of the MA correct in the way that once the market closes, then the PP value would disappear, because the MA needs live data feed to be kept alive? Or does this only happen if I close down the MA and then reopen it after the market has closed?

PPS: Just like it is possible to send a row in the MA to a chart, it should also be possible to send chart to the MA along with the settings (this way the user would not have to configure columns manually and would not have to worry about getting the configuration in sync with what is in the chart).

You need to ensure that there are enough bars on the chart to calculate for your input series. With that in mind, I'd recommend changing the Data series Type to "Day".

CalculateFromIntraDay data will use minute data, while DailyBars will use daily data.

The LastPrice column needs real-time data. If there hasn't been a ticket recently, it'll be blank when you open the market analyzer. However, indicators should work on historical data if the market is closed.

It is not currently possible to send the settings to the chart. It will only send the main input series.
