Serious bug when saving workspace in 6.5

Leaving aside the issue of what is causing NT 6.5.1000.10 to crash sometimes when I try to save a workspace, there is a serious bug associated with this that should NEVER happen.

When I try to save a workspace and my NinjaTrader locks up and crashes, I find that my Default.xml file in the workspaces directory has disappeared! This means that the code is actually moving/deleting that file somewhere before it attempts an operation, and when the operation fails, the file never gets written back. This is unacceptable, and a serious bug. You need to change your code so that a copy of this file is ALWAYS, 100% of the time, stored on disk somewhere.

You cannot delete or move this thing and then expect that whatever operation you are calling is going to succeed, because if it doesn't, then ALL the workspace information is lost, costing the user potentially hours of effort.

Maybe I am missing something, and an interim copy of this file is stored somewhere, but I can't find it. If there is one, please point it out to me... and if not, please forward this problem to the developers so they can fix it for the next release.

    Thanks!

A quick note... thankfully in my case, the system eventually came back from its frozen state and I got my Default.xml file back. (That doesn't change my original comment in any way, just FYI - deleting that file is still unacceptable.)

In this particular case, the error was that it couldn't serialize an indicator that I had... this seems to periodically hang the system when trying to save the workspace. (Very rare, but it does happen... maybe you can check that out too.)

Jason, I got an email saying that you posted on this thread but I don't see your post. In any case, here are the answers to your questions:

When it crashes it doesn't initially report anything, it just freezes for a period of minutes. Thankfully, as I said, it does come back with a message that my indicator could not be serialized, and then the system works again. (Although the first time this happened I killed the system before it could come back since I thought it was locked up, so I just lost my Default.xml - the second time it came back and the file was written to disk.)

I changed my indicator to add the XMLIgnore attribute, which I think COULD be the problem (but I don't know, I'm not an expert). I'll let you know if it happens again. And yes, I am saving a copy of that file all the time now!

        Hello JS999,

I see, I have reported the issue to Development that the Default.xml file is removed when shutting down NinjaTrader during a freeze that occurs upon saving the Default workspace.

I am not sure if the added attribute is related.

If you experience a freeze, I suggest to wait a few minutes before shutting down NinjaTrader.

Jason just a note - Ninja Trader is not trying to shut down when this happens, just save the workspace. It simply hangs for a long time (but eventually does seem to come back). I changed my indicator to add the XMLIgnore attribute and it hasn't happened since - although since it's rare I won't know for some time if that was the problem or not...
