how many symbols that can be traded

how many symbols that can be traded using NT with IB without impacting performance. my stratgies are normally breakout strategies with trailing stops of previous bar on 15 minute bars.
apart from IB 100 symbol limitation, what would be ideal numbers for breakout strategies.

That is not something we can easily determine for you. There are many factors like your computer specs, your internet speed, etc. One of the key factors would also be exactly how intensive your strategy logic is actually coded to be.

the strategy would be simple.
Buy on breakout of the previous bar after 9.45 with trailing stop of 1 ATR using 15 minute bars.
i have a P 2 Ghz wiht 1 Gig ram running IB and dsl 4 mb bandwidth. no other apps running on xp.

You will just have to try. Generally if you run your strategies as CalculateOnBarClose = true you can run a lot more simultaneous strategies too. If you don't load as much historical data you will be able to get more performance too.
