    ConnectionLost repetitively.

    I've just gone live, and suddenly NinjaTrader is losing connection on average once every 4-5 minutes. In the log it suggests the connection is lost, then regained within a second or two, however in reality the superdom pauses for up to a minute (before the ConnectionLost and Connect entry arrive in to log).

    Please help! I don't recall this sort of activity on simulation, though to be honest I didn't check the logs.

    What can I do?

    Hi,

    Unfortunately NinjaTrader does not dictate when a connection is lost. It operates like a radio receiver in that it receives a signal from your broker and then displays/reports these signals back to you the trader. When a connection is lost, it is the broker's API that determines this and reports this to NinjaTrader which in turn reports this back to the trader.
    The common problems that contribute to this are -
    - ISP issues
    - hardware firewall issues changing IP addresses frequently
    - Dynamic ISP address switching the address frequently intraday. Usually this happens once a week but you may want to check with your ISP. If they do change daily, a static IP address may work.
    - With Windows XP SP2, if you have more than 10 open TCPIP socket connections open (10 programs making connections through the internet) windows will randomly shut down some connections
    - Broker servers having problems

      Thanks for your reply. Are there any ports I should fix open (routed through to the PC that does my trading)?

      My broker is ampfutures.com. Do you know of any issues with them?

      For what it's worth, I have XP SP3, and to my knowledge no other network access software running (I've even tried disabling AVG antivirus, to no effect). It is my believe that I have a fixed IP, and certainly my IP doesn't fluctuate in 5 minute cycles (at worst it's once a week).

      Do you have any answer or any more information that might help me combat this problem? At times it pauses, and while nothing shows on my screen, by the time it has returned it has moved by 6-8 points. Very severe issue. (In fact, it's sometimes missing my stoporders because of this... scary!)

        There are no special port numbers and you are able to connect. You just lose connection.

        What I suggest is to relocate and see if you continue to have the same issue. If not, it's for sure an ISP issue.
