Can't add S%P 500 index to intrsument list

A while back I added DJIA to the instrument list....on TD Ameritrade it's listed as $DJIA...the S&P500 index is listed as $SPX.X...

However, I had to remap $DJIA to ^DJIA because I guess NT6.5 likes it that way.

I try to add new instrument ^SPX.X and NT6.5 tells me that "^" is not a legal character? What gives? I use "^" to get to DJIA!

I would really appreciate any help. If any one has TD Ameritrade would you mind checking that and also how you have the S&P mapped in NT6.5?

Please go to Tools-->Options-->Misc-tab and click Reset Instruments.

Open up the Instrument Manager and add the default SP500 instrument to your instrument list.

Let me know if this does not work for you.

I think it just had to do with the name NT6.5 uses for S&P500....

Usually say with a stock like INTC I just type "INTC". This works in TD Ameritrade and NT6.5 (makes sense no?)

S&P 500 index is named "$SPX.X" in TD Ameritrade.

However, I looked up * in indices and found that S&P500 is named "SP500" in NT6.5

So that's where the confusion was. "$SPX.X" = ^SP500 in NT6.5. No need to reset NT6.5
