In case anyone can benefit from this (I know I was curious prior to my purchase) I recently built a new machine and wanted to share the NT performance comparison.
Old machine:
Core 2 Duo E6850 (3ghz) overclocked to 3.51ghz
3xWD 320GB, RAID 0 using on-board RAID [230mb/sec]
8GB DDR2 memory
Vista x64 SP1
New machine:
Core i7 920 (2.66ghz) overclocked to 3.8ghz [Turbo On/HT enabled]
4xPatriot 32GB SSD MLC, RAID 0 using 3Ware 9690-SA [400mb/sec]
2xWD 750GB, RAID 1 using on-board RAID
12GB DDR3 memory
Windows 7 x64 RC1 (build 7057)
I ran an optimization job side-by-side with exact same data, params, everything as close as I could get.
Old system took 55 minutes. CPU was around 70% (normal for this)
New system took 45 minutes. CPU was around 15% (new to me, but I knew NT wouldn't take full advantage of the eight cores with HyperThreading enabled).
As others have already reported, so far NT 6.5 works fine with Windows 7. The same 1.3GB memory limitations still exist.
