YAHOO .csv to .txt

Hello,

Embarrassingly amateur question, "How do you convert free Yahoo daily historical to the format NinjaTrader requires?"

Or rather, how do you do it without having to edit a few thousand lines (by hand)?

I could, but I'd rather not.

The most I've done is:

Used excel to tidy up the date and add ";" columns. Copy and paste to a .txt or save it as a .txt.

Unfortunately the .txt ends up with tabs.

Whats the best way to do this.

P.S.: I am ashamed I don't know how to write a program to format a simple .txt file. This is unbelievable to me. Where did I go wrong in my studies? Or am I trying to reinvent the wheel when there are simpler ways, perhaps different file conversions using programs already on my PC? Or are both answers more complex than needed? Sigh

The easiest way to get a .txt file of this data is to connect to Yahoo, and export this data.

-When exported, it will already be in the correct format.

Thanks for the reply. I finally found out a way to piece together a few different tools to work with free Yahoo historical daily data.

I will post it in the rare case someone with similar IQ and life experiences happens by chance upon this thread, and finds the convoluted method appropriate:

Step 1) Download historical data from yahoo, by clicking on 'Download to Spreadsheet'. It will be in a .csv
Step 2) Using excel, format date into yyyymmdd.
Step 3) Add columns with ";" in appropriate places.
