No dashes, dots, or spaces in instrument symbols?

Between the AMEX and the NYSE, there are over 700 securities with dashes or dots in their symbol.

IB replaces the dots and dashes with a space or spacePR, but the Instrument Manager doesn't like that either.

Is there a work-around I'm missing?

Is this issue fixed in version 7?

You will need to enter the symbol under the 'IB Symbol' column in the IB symbol guide.

Click the Misc-tab in the Instrument Editor window (click New button in the Instrument Manager) and enter the symbol next to Interactive Brokers.

That didn't work for me.

For example, the symbol for Aaron Rents, Inc. CL-A in the IB symbol guide is "RNT A" (RNTspaceA). The Instrument Manager says "The Master Instrument field can only hold letters and digits and underscore."

Is there any way to add this symbol to my instrument list?

You might want to set this up for the IB symbol map.

Go to the Instrument Manager under the Tools menu. Then when you're adding the instrument click on the Misc tab in the Instrument Editor and enter the symbol map for IB.
