Do unopened workspaces update?

Are unopened workspaces using the cpu and internet bandwidth?

Or are the data and indicators updated only after the workspace is opened?

...inquiring minds need to know!

...plus I don't want too many demands on the cpu and bandwidth slowing down my trade orders.
