Disconnecting from data feed & strategies

Hallo,

When trading with automated strategies, when I disconnect from the datafeed & broker after a trading day, all the stratagies are also disconnected, so I have to reload all of them every day?

Any way to avoid this?

Hello jriverac,

Correct, you will need to set your strategy parameters each new session, it is not supported to have these saved.

This will be supported in NinjaTrader 7; its beta version is expected to be released the second quarter of 2009.

What if the IBs TWS disconnect itself for a few minutes? Then I lose all the strategies in NT!!

Any suggestions to avoid this? using a 2nd datafeed?
Can I tell NT to send me an email if it got disconnected?

I want to trade automated strategies but cannot look at screen all day long...

You can use a backup data feed provider or connect to a second connection simultaneously. More information can be found at the link below.

Unfortunately, it is not supported to send an email when you experience a disconnection.

NinjaTrader does not dictate when a connection is lost. It operates like a radio receiver in that it receives a signal from your broker and then displays/reports these signals back to you the trader. When a connection is lost, it is the broker's API that determines this and reports this to NinjaTrader which in turn reports this back to the trader.

The common problems that contribute to this are:

- ISP issues

- hardware firewall issues changing IP addresses frequently

- Dynamic ISP address switching the address frequently intraday. Usually this happens once a week but you may want to check with your ISP. If they do change daily, a static IP address may work.

- With Windows XP SP2, if you have more than 10 open TCPIP socket connections open (10 programs making connections through the internet) windows will randomly shut down some connections

- Broker servers having problems

Hallo again,

One more question: If I use the SetStopLoss under the Initialize() method, i understand that the stoploss order is sent to the broker right after a buy/sell order has been executed. So, even if NT gets disconnected, the order will not be affected... am I right?

This depends on the order status of the stop loss order listed under the State-column in the Orders-tab of the Control Center and the connectivity provider you use. More information can be found at the link below.
