How can I add in older months into the Instrument Manager?

    Hello,

I was able to use TradeStation to import non-continuous data for the CME Eurodollar into Ninja Trader for some Contract Months in 2008, but I can't figure out how to add contract months from 2007 into the Intrument Manager so that I can import them, since the "Expiry" combobox in the Intrument Manager for CME Eurodollar (Symbol = GE) only goes back to 01-08.

How can I add contact months for the CME Eurodollar from 2007 into the intrument manager "Expiry" combobox, so I can add "GE 01-07", etc., into my Instrument List?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

This is a known limitation that will be fixed in a future release.

The contract dates only go so far back and are based on your local PC clock. To get past dates, you must set your PC clock back to that year and restart NinjaTrader.

      Hello NinjaTrader_RJStein,

Thanks! Works like a charm. When I set my computer clock back one year, I get all the 2007 contract months showing up in the Instrument Manager "Expiry" combobox, and I was able to import the data from TradeStation for all these 2007 contracts.

      Thanks again!

        PC Clock is Auto Reverting...

To add contracts beyond 2005, do we still have to set our PC clocks back to access the older contracts?

I'm running Windows 7, here is what I am trying to do:

        1. I first change my PC's clock to a date in 2010
        2. I then start NT7
        3. I then access the Instrument Manager and go to the instrument (let's use ES)
        4. I then scroll down to Contract Months under Misc., but the same dates are there
        5. I then go and look at my PC clock, and it has automatically reverted back to today's date.
        6. I then repeat and my PC clock keeps auto updating.

Does anyone know how to find the Windows 7 setting that disables auto updating date and time? In Date/Time settings, I have unchecked the "Synchronize with an Internet Time server" box located on the "Internet Time" tab.

        Thoughts?

        Thanks,

Currently the only option to add previous contracts within NinjaTrader is to change the PC clock date. I have forwarded this to our development team as a suggestion on how we can improve the NinjaTrader platform. Once this suggestion has been input into our tracking system I will forward you the assigned ID number for tracking.

After disabling the option "Synchronize with an Internet time server" please confirm you are click Ok as opposed to closing the window.

            Thanks, Christopher.

To confirm, I am clicking OK after disabling "Synchronize with an Internet time server".

            Any ideas?

Can you tell me when this option is enabled once again such as after going back to that window, rebooting, etc.

I think I figured it out. I'm running Windows on a Mac via Parallels. Under the Advanced Parallels Options, I had to select Time as "Do Not Sync". I then re-started Windows. The date now stays at 2/10/2010. So that problem is solved.

I then opened NT7 up and went to the ES contract via the Instrument Manager-- and then I went to Misc., however I am still only seeing the old contract months.

To confirm that NT7 is seeing the correct 2/10/2010 data (which is what my CPU is set to), I opened up a ES ##-## chart--and it correctly shows data for 2/10/2010 is being the hard right edge. So I know that NT is seeing the 2010 date.

                Any ideas?

                Thanks,

In order to select newer expiries you will be required to set to your PC back to a new date after adding the older expiries such as ES 03-10.

Also keep in mind within NinjaTrader data will automatically be merged to build continuous data. For example if you have ES 03-14 selected however you load data 2 years back data from previous contracts will be merged to build data and you wouldn't be required to select ES 03-12.

                    Christopher--

I'm trying to add ES data that starts with the ES 03-03 contract. I reset my computer's clock to 2.10.2010 yesterday, but the same 44 contract months still were the only ones that were populated.

Would you be willing to tell me what data I should set my computer clock to in order to be able to add the ES 03-03 contract?

                    Thanks,

To add ES 03-03 you would need to set your PC date back to 2003 which will then give you access to 03-03 within the Expiry drop down menu.

I set my computer clock to 4.11.2003 (http://screencast.com/t/3UilH76q), however I still not seeing the ES 03-03 contract (http://screencast.com/t/hUhyCgXtucCm).

                        Any thoughts?

This indicates there has not been information downloaded from your provider this expiry however with the PC clock set to 2003 you will have the ability to select the 03-03 expiry as referenced in the attached screen shot.

Okay, so I was able to import the ES 03-03 and later contracts (doing that now).

However, if the ES 03-03 is not a defined contract in the Instrument's "Contract Months", how does NT know what the appropriate rollover offset and date should be? How do I add Contract Months to the Instrument? For our little example here, let's continue to use ES 03-03 as the target Contract Month (which I hope will shed light on the process for all instruments).

We're almost there. Thanks for your help.

This information will update after connecting to your provider then selecting this contract within your chart to load data.
