I just installed Ninjatrader on a new PC and I noticed it asked me to unblock it for windows firewall. Is this really necessary? What does it do? I prefer to keep my machine really secure and not unblock anything.

You may need to create permission in your Firewall for NinjaTrader.com so that your license can verify.
You can try using NinjaTrader without these permission but you will likely receive a "invalid license" error.
However, since you don't want to create the permissions you can say no and wait to see if the above mentioned error occurs or not.
