Whenever I try to set an Id using the Command method, Ninja trader just sets its own. What could I be doing wrong?

Welcome to the NinjaTrader forums!
This would be expected behavior. The brokerage does generate their own order id when the order is accepted which is then updated in NinjaTrader for the order object.
However, through the API, you can still use the original order ID you generated for the order to get information about the order with the OrderStatus() method.
