    Retrieving data excessively

Every single time I change time frames on a chart, it goes into "retrieving data" for what seems like forever. It does this even if I switch from a 5 second chart to a 4 second chart. Seems really stupid to me since all the data is there and was downloaded the last time it retrieved data. How can I get this to just use the data that is already there and quit retrieving new data every single time? Isn't there a cache or something?

    Hi rangerdoc,

Which NinjaTrader version are you running (Help > About) and which datafeed / broker are you connecting to?

To understand when NinjaTrader loads historical data, please review this link from our help guide - http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...ricalData.html

    Have a great day!

        Hi rangerdoc,

How many days back are you requesting?

Please also check which historical data server you are using (Tools > Account Connections > Your Gain connection, then check the settings for 'Historical Data' and use the NinjaTrader servers).

I was using the Gain server for historical data, not NTs. If I'm not mistaken, Gain only provides 24hr of historical data on very short timeframes. I assume NT servers must maintain a longer historical database?

            Hi rangerdoc,

Yes if you choose to connect to the NinjaTrader historical server, you have access to a much longer history coupled with a higher server performance.

I can't believe how much faster the NT server is. Thanks... problem solved.
