How to load NT Custom Proj File into Visual Studio

I'm trying to load NinjaTrader into VIsual Studio 2019 but its not working. I simply double clicked on NinjaTrader.Custom.csproj and it loads Visual Studio but there are zero files in VS Solution.
Can someone help guide me to get NT loaded?

    Hello Taddypole,

    Thanks for your post.

To use Visual Studio with NT8 you would need to first open the NinjaScript Editor (New > NinjaScript Editor) and then click the Visual Studio button in the Editor toolbar. This opens the NinjaTrader.Custom project in Visual Studio. See the attached image highlighting the Visual Studio button in the NinjaScript Editor.

      Sorry Brandon,
I wrote this in the NT7 area because I haven't moved to NT 8 yet. So need guidance for NT 7.

        Hello Taddypole,

        Thank you for your note.

For NinjaTrader 7, you would need to open the script you would like to edit (Tools > Edit NinjaScript), right-click in the script, and select 'Debug mode'. Then you would open Visual Studio, select Debug > Attach to process, select NinjaTrader from the process list, and press the "Attach" button. After attaching NinjaTrader from the process list, open the NinjaScript source file within Microsoft Visual Studio. After making changes to your script, save the script in Visual Studio, and click the compile button in the NinjaScript Editor window (NOT in Visual Studio).

See this help guide documentation for detailed steps on editing/debugging a NinjaScript in Visual Studio: https://ninjatrader.com/support/help..._debugging.htm

            Hello Taddypole,

            Thank you for your note.

Are you using Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code? Also, please provide a screenshot of the full version of Visual Studio that you are using. (This can be found by navigating to Help > About Microsoft Visual Studio.)

Please note that the Express version of Visual Studio is not supported as stated in the NT7 help guide documentation linked in my previous post.

I look forward to assisting further.

I'm using Visual Studio Community 2019.
also attached is the process I'm trying and the message I get about not being able to open the file. It says please select a Project file, but the is what i'm selecting.... I don't understand.

                Hello Taddypole,

                Thank you for your note.

When selecting the project file from Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom, were you prompted with a window asking if you would like to upgrade the project?

Do you have the .NET C# package installed in Visual Studio?

Please attach the NinjaTrader.Custom.csproj file located in the Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom folder so we may further investigate this.

I look forward to your reply.

                  Thank you Brandon,

Installing the .NET C# package got me going again.
